Terv-boy Worthy is one of the dearest dogs one could ever hope to meet. He is a champion smiler, and absolutely must have affection from everyone available. A soft-temperament guy, he is very biddable and willing to learn, as long as one doesn't apply too much pressure. He is good with children and adults alike, and will probably make a great therapy dog, if I can ever get around to doing the training.
I adopted Worthy from ABTC Rescue when he was about 3 months old. I will forever be grateful to Sandy Shaw for speaking up for me to the powers that be, and to Sharon Redmer (who was the powers that be ) at the time of his adoption! Worthy was born Feb. 21st, 1999, and was the product of an accidental breeding between purebred Belgians. We know his mama was "Lassie du Crepusule des Loup", a French Terv bitch not registered in the US. And his dad was one of 5 Belgian boys...most likely an American-bred Terv whose call name was "Bailey". Interestingly, Bailey's father was a Belgian Sheepdog, perhaps accounting for Worthy's all-black head, etc.
Our breeder-judge friends love Worthy, citing his typey head, excellent ears and compact, square body. He could've easily finished his Championship, had he not been neutered so early. Oh yeah, and if not for that lovely streak of disqualifying white which runs clear from his chin to his chest . At any rate, he is a very handsome boy, and a joy to live with.
Worthy's talents have so far shown themselves mostly in herding, where he is a delight to work with. Showing tons of natural instinct, he works best when trusted to do the right thing. He is very attentive, and will take commands readily, even if they are wrong....sigh (yes, he is owner-handled). The only one he doesn't seem to like is "Stop!". He currently has one leg of his HSAs, and we hope to finish his title this coming year. I also will be starting him in agility soon, and think he might have fun doing Rally Obedience.
This boy is so very close to my heart, and I treasure everyday I have with the Worthy-one!
